Lao National Detained for Attempted Drug Smuggling in Cambodia

A 31-year-old man faces court after attempting to transport over one million illegal pills into Cambodia.
A Lao national was brought to Stung Treng Provincial Court on Tuesday for the illegal transport of over one million methamphetamine pills. The suspect, identified as Vue Yeng, was stopped at the Trapeang Kriel International Border Checkpoint on November 9 while attempting to cross into Cambodia. Authorities discovered 167 drug packages, equaling approximately 1,034,413 pills, in his vehicle. The case is under investigation, with Vue Yeng in pre-trial detention.

Authorities have increased drug-related operations across Cambodia, with recent crackdowns uncovering large quantities of drugs smuggled from the Golden Triangle. Meas Virith, secretary-general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD), has called for stricter border controls to combat rising drug smuggling.
