Cambodia is celebrating significant achievements in its efforts to improve rural clean water and sanitation. With a rural clean water coverage rate of 83.3 percent and a rural sanitation rate of 86.6 percent, the nation is making remarkable progress towards ensuring access to basic necessities for its citizens.

A recent report unveiled at a meeting on clean water supply and rural sanitation strategies underscores these accomplishments. Provinces like Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, and Kep have already achieved open defecation-free status, marking a critical milestone in public health and sanitation.

Additionally, six other provinces, including Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Cham, Thbong Khmum, Rattanakiri, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, and the capital Phnom Penh, are poised to follow suit in the near future.

At the annual meeting of the Ministry of Rural Development, Minister Chhay Rithisen highlighted the installation of over 2.58 million family toilets and 10,322 public toilets across the country, a testament to Cambodia's commitment to improving sanitation infrastructure and promoting a healthier environment for all.
