Siem Reap’s Ta Nei Temple Receives Restored Artefacts in Preservation Effort
In a significant cultural preservation event, the Angkor Heritage Protection Police and the Apsara National Authority (ANA) successfully returned five restored stone artefacts to the Ta Nei Temple in Siem Reap province. The artefacts, integral to the temple’s structure and historical narrative, were restored under the guidance of Tomoda Massachikoto, the Japanese director involved in the temple’s excavation, research, and repair.
Built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, Ta Nei Temple has undergone several extensions. It is tucked away in the forest, north of the famous Ta Keo and Ta Prohm temples, epitomizing the image of a secluded, tumbledown temple.
Long Kosal, a spokesperson for the ANA, highlighted the collaborative effort with the Japanese restoration team, which initially discovered the artefacts. Following their discovery, the artefacts underwent thorough research to determine their original placements within the temple complex, ensuring their accurate restoration and reintegration.
Ta Nei's current renovation includes these latest restorations, and the temple remains open to the public. However, access to this hidden gem is limited to foot or bicycle, preserving its tranquil and untouched ambiance.
