Celebrating 57 Years of Cambodia-Vietnam Diplomatic Relations: A Legacy of Friendship and Cooperation

As the two nations mark over half a century of diplomatic ties, their partnership continues to flourish across various sectors
June 24, 2024, marks the 57th anniversary of official diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam, two nations that share a long history dating back to the 15th century. Despite different political paths, with Vietnam maintaining a communist regime and Cambodia embracing a multi-party democracy, the bond between the two countries remains robust and expansive.

Throughout the Cold War and into the modern era, Cambodia and Vietnam have deepened their alliance, transcending political systems to foster a relationship built on mutual respect and beneficial cooperation. This partnership has been pivotal in regional peace and stability, emphasizing the importance of good neighborliness and collaborative growth.

Under the leadership of Cambodia's new Prime Minister, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN MANET, and with continued cooperation from Vietnam, both nations commit to a foreign policy rooted in strengthening friendship and expanding cooperation. This approach is manifest in their active participation in regional forums where they frequently exchange views on issues of mutual and global significance.

The two countries continue to enhance their bilateral relations through extensive collaboration across various fields including economic, cultural, and political sectors. They also jointly address global challenges, strengthen contacts at all levels, and deepen mutual understanding to achieve greater national and international outcomes.

With a foreign policy that emphasizes peaceful resolution of disputes and fostering good neighborliness, Cambodia and Vietnam are committed to maintaining a relationship characterized by the motto of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term cooperation.” As they move forward, both nations aspire to further enrich their partnership, contributing positively to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and prosperity.
