In a special address at the high-level opening of the eightieth session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in Bangkok, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated Cambodia's commitment to clearing landmines and explosive remnants of war. Highlighting Cambodia's presidency over the Ottawa Convention and the upcoming 5th Review Conference titled "The Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World," PM Hun Manet emphasized the importance of collective action in eliminating these deadly weapons.

The premier emphasized that for Cambodia, demining is not just a challenge but a critical obstacle to overall development, including digital connectivity. He expressed gratitude to UN-ESCAP for its support in drafting Cambodia's National Mine Action Policy, marking the organization's first involvement in mine action in the country.
