The ambitious Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, aims to revolutionize Cambodia's transportation infrastructure, fostering economic development and connectivity across key regions of the country.

The project, spanning approximately 420 km, will provide a vital link between Phnom Penh and the Cambodia-Thailand border at Poipet. It is set to traverse through various provinces, including Kandal, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, and Banteay Meanchey, facilitating seamless travel and trade between major urban centers and border areas.

Implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mechanism, the expressway project is divided into two phases. The first phase encompasses the stretch from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, while the second phase extends from Siem Reap to Poipet.

Following a framework agreement signed with the China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC) on June 7, 2023, significant progress has been made in the project's development. The CRBC is currently conducting the Preliminary Feasibility Study (PSF) and is on track to complete the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap section by February and the Siem Reap-Poipet section by May 2024.

Once operational, the expressway is expected to unlock numerous economic opportunities, including enhanced trade facilitation, tourism promotion, and regional integration. By bolstering transportation infrastructure, Cambodia is poised to attract greater investment, spur economic growth, and improve livelihoods for its citizens.
